Chichester academic to discuss Iris Murdoch poems on Radio 4

An academic from the University of Chichester will be appearing on Radio 4’s Start The Week show on Monday 22 December.
The broadcast focuses on interpreting the minds and motivations of poets, both past and present, and features Chichester’s Dr Miles Leeson, Reader in English Literature, as well as Karen Leeder, Professor of German language and literature at Queen’s College, Oxford.
As part of the show, Miles will be presenting his co-edited book Poems from an Attic, a newly published collection of Iris Murdoch’s previously unseen poetry. Found in a box by Miles long after her death, these intimate verses offer fresh insight into the desires of a writer better known for her novels and philosophy.
He said: “I will be discussing Murdoch’s newly-discovered poetry – already publicised across national media – and how it reshapes our conceptions of her life and work.”
Miles previously appeared on Radio 4’s ‘In Our Time’ edition on Iris Murdoch.
Tom Sutcliffe presents Start The Week on Radio 4, 22 Dec, 9am.
