Professional development courses at University get CIPD’s official stamp of approval

  • University of Chichester begins new affiliation with Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)
  • Accreditation of both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes seen as mark of quality by industry
  • Courses are taught by University’s Business School which was named among the UK’s top-25 in national rankings

Professional degree courses at the University of Chichester have been recognised as among the UK’s best after they received accreditation by a national body.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, known at the CIPD, accredited the courses after assessing that they map and align to the core knowledge and behaviour standards of its Profession Map.

The endorsement, recognised as a mark of quality by industry employers, provides an accreditation for its undergraduate Human Resource Management degree, as well as its masters in People and Organisation Development. The courses are taught by the University of Chichester’s Business School, which itself was recently named in the UK’s top 25 by the Guardian University Guide.

Senior lecturer Paula Jenkins, who leads the Human Resource Management programmes, said the accreditation is recognition for the University’s efforts to develop its professional teaching courses.

She added: “We are proud that our contribution to the people profession and our work with HR and organisational development has been recognised. There is real interest in our courses, with enrolments up by 50 per cent in five years, and so this represents the culmination of our hard work.”

The University’s new CIPD accreditation will align the degrees with its Profession Map standards. It means students will graduate as members of the profession together with the qualifications and skills necessary for the roles at the highest level of human management.

Ms Charlotte Cope, the CIPD’s Lead Centre and Student Partnership Officer, said: “We are delighted to welcome University of Chichester as a new CIPD Accredited Programme Provider offering both accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that align to the CIPD Profession Map. We look forward to working with both the University and their students going forward and in supporting their students in gaining CIPD membership.”

The University’s BA (Hons) in Business and Human Resource Management is designed to equip students for careers across the HR sector, either as a generalist or specialist, or others areas of business as a people manager.

The three-year MA in People and Organisation Development, which is run collaboratively with renowned leadership consultancy Mayvin, is based on practice-based learning to develop professionals in the workplace.
