University alumni joins Great Britain’s basketball coaching squad
A FORMER University of Chichester student has spoken of his delight after he was appointed on the coaching team of Great Britain men’s basketball squad.
Adam Sewell will fulfil his childhood dream of representing his country as Head Performance Analyst for the national side. The Sport and Exercise Science graduate takes up his new role between his work at Chichester’s Students’ Union, where he manages sports societies and activities for the University.
Adam said: “It is a tremendous honour and achievement to represent my country. Being an active and passionate basketball fan, it is incredible to now be working alongside the elite players, coaching and support staff in a high-performance environment.
The Chichester alumni first attended the University in 2011 as a mature student with the goal of working in elite sport. He takes reasonability for player development as well as data analysis and visualisation for the men’s basketball team, and will also work as coach for Great Britain’s under-16s.
He added: “The Students’ Union and Chichester’s Institute of Sport have gone above and beyond supporting my development, and I now have a wealth of academic and applied experience.”
Earlier this year, Adam’s team the Solent Kestrel, where his is also a Performance Analyst, won the national cup and became the first non-professional side to progress to the British Basketball League trophy final.
Adam’s main focus now is on the GB men’s squad and qualification to EuroBasket 2021. “We are the lowest rank team in our qualification group but have shown our immense drive after recently beating Germany in front of a sold-out crowd,” he said.
“I am excited to use my expertise on the international stage to positively impact the U16s and men’s programmes and hopefully attend a major tournament in the near future.”
