About
Darren is Head of Film and Programme Co-ordinator for both Digital Film Production & Screenwriting and Digital Film Technologies. He also oversees the Screenwriting and Screen Acting & Creative Technologies degrees.
He is an award-winning filmmaker lecturing in film production and is actively involved in practice-based film research. Prior to his academic career, he ran a successful independent film company and as camera operator, director, and producer, worked on a broad range of factual, entertainment and drama programmes.
His research interests include digital cinematography, horror cinema, Australian cinema, and learning and teaching in film studies.
He is actively engaged in inter-departmental research, and currently developing postgraduate opportunities in digital production.
He is undertaking a PhD researching digital production as a method of scholarship and holds a Masters in Creative & Media Education from Bournemouth University. He is a fellow of The Higher Education Academy and a member of the Royal Television Society, the International Moving Image Society, The Guild of Television Camera Professionals and NAHEMI, the National Association for Higher Education in the Moving Image. He is also a DaVinci Resolve Certified Trainer.
