Stewart Seymour

Stewart Seymour

Associate Lecturer in Psychology

About

Stewart achieved his degree in Advanced Applied Psychology (MSci) at the University of Chichester and is currently working towards his PhD.

Before entering academia, Stewart worked as an airline pilot for nearly 20 years, flying domestically and throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa. His research has explored the role of stoicism in pilots and the impact this may have on the perceived benefits of disclosing personal information. His work has also examined how pilots’ self-efficacy is influenced by workplace adaptability and locus of control.

His PhD research focuses on how pilots’ mental health and wellbeing are supported within the aviation environment. Pilots manage stress through both self-developed coping strategies and the policies and support systems established by airlines and regulatory authorities. The goal of Stewart’s PhD research is to understand airline pilots’ perceptions of the effectiveness of these systems.

Alongside his research interests, Stewart teaches across a number of Psychology and Criminology modules as an Associate Lecturer.

Professional

Stewart is a member of the British Psychological Society, as well as an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
