Throughout my career, I have always been interested in considering the impact of loss and change on individuals, families, organisations and systems.

Culminating in working with the ultimate loss that death brings, at any age, through my work in, and with, hospices.

Qualified in social work, counselling, couples counselling and supervision I work half time at the university and, in the other half of my week, I provide supervision to a variety of individuals and organisations, such as hospices. Supervision enables workers to have a place to talk about the effect their work has on them and work on strategies in order to provide the best service possible and to keep themselves professionally refreshed.

I also have a small private therapeutic practice where, again, these issues are often a thread through the work.

I am currently undertaking research in supervision in end of life care with the hope of achieving my PhD in the next few years!

Alongside these endeavours, I am also involved with the West Sussex children’s bereavement forum, organising dying matters events and am working towards the second in a set of three conferences on facing death and bereavement for specific groups of people. In 2017, the university hosted a successful conference on working with children and this year (2018) the focus is working with people with learning disabilities.

I teach across the BA, MA, MA App and the children and families degree.
