Natalie Rowland

Senior Dance Technician & Senior Lecturer

Natalie is a lighting designer and practitioner-researcher working with the Dance Department at the University of Chichester as Senior Lecturer and Technical Manager.

Natalie is a professional design member of the Association of Lighting Designers (ALD) and continues her professional practice lighting dance, theatre and live music. Her most recent designs have included Flexer & Sandiland’s dance work Disappearing Acts (2016), musician Chagall van-den-Berg’s Calibration european tour (2017) and Thomas Guthrie's production of Monteverdi's opera L'Orfeo (2017). Natalie’s work frequently involves non-traditional performance locations, digital media and interactivity.

Currently undertaking a PhD exploring the impact of digital lighting technologies on the designer, programmer and operator, Natalie’s research considers the practitioners relationship with technology and its impact on the experience and process of lighting.

Natalie lectures in technical production skills, choreographing with mobile technologies and interdisciplinary practice.
