University leaders champion future skills at major UK business event

Representatives from the University of Chichester attended UKREiiF 2026 in Leeds last week, a three-day forum which aims to help drive development in the UK, with a focus on economic growth.
Chichester’s Olivia McLaughlin, Chief Operating Officer and University Secretary, and Federica Bocciarelli, Careers and Employability Manager, joined the Gatwick Region at UKREiiF (Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum) delegation, alongside other colleges, universities and industry leaders. The delegates explored how the next generation of talent will steer research, innovation and economic growth across the area.
Throughout the event, discussions centred on the importance of collaboration between education, government and employers. These conversations emphasised the need to align education provision with evolving labour market demands to ensure a skilled workforce.
The group also welcomed a surprise visit from Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, who spoke with Baroness Margaret Ford, Chair of Gatwick Airport, about strengthening the region’s position as a UK investment destination.
During the Gatwick Region Knowledge Economy showcase, Olivia and Federica engaged in a series of insightful conversations about how education partnerships are helping to shape a workforce equipped for future challenges, with contributions from Paul Kett, Vice-Chancellor of London South Bank University, and Julie Kapsalis, Principal of Nescot College.
Federica Bocciarelli said: “The University took part in this event as a Knowledge Economy Partner, showcasing the diversity, strength, and opportunities our region has to offer. It sparked insightful conversations, created great connections with businesses, and opened up exciting opportunities for collaboration.
Olivia McLaughlin continued: “Looking ahead, the University of Chichester is keen to build on the momentum created at UKREiiF by working closely with employers, industry leaders and partners. This includes developing new skills initiatives, enhancing student placement opportunities, and forming partnerships that support regional growth and innovation.”
