A Guide to University Life Skills
Wondering what skills you’ll need for uni outside of academics? Here’s a guide to everything you need to know.
Cooking
As tempting as it is to order takeout every night, cooking for yourself and possibly your flatmates is a really useful skill to have. No need to worry if you haven’t cooked much before, there are dozens of student recipes online or student cookbooks with easy recipes to follow.

Managing your money
This is a skill that you’ll need after uni as well, so uni is a good time to start learning to budget your money. Whether it is money from student finance, or from a part time job, keeping track of the money coming in and out of your bank account will ease any financial stresses and reduce the risk of running low on cash.

Taking care of your health
Your mental and physical health is one of the most important things to take care of while you are at uni. With a busy schedule, your health can be easy to neglect. Taking time to rest and to exercise in a way that suits you, will do wonders. Also remember to sign up to a local doctor’s while you’re at uni, so there is help if you need it.

Time management
With lectures, extra-curriculars and part-time jobs, it can feel overwhelming at times. Keeping track of your time is a great way to ease any stresses about your schedule. Setting alarms, having a timetable or a diary can assist with time-management.
