Digital and Technology Solutions Professional (Software Engineer) Degree Apprenticeship

Our BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions Professional (Software Engineer) has been developed in partnership with the Tech Partnership and regional IT employers to meet the requirements of the Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Degree Apprenticeship.  You'll be employed full-time by the business and will attend University on a day-release basis. The apprenticeship provides you with a split of university-based modules and in-business training and work experience.

Course content

You'll have a real job with your employer that allows you to develop the knowledge you acquire at University in the workplace.

The aim is to integrate academic learning and on-the-job practical training to ensure that you graduate with the experience that your employer needs, now and in the future.

On successful completion, apprentices will be awarded a Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Degree Apprencticeship which includes a BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions (Software Engineer) degree.  

The aim of the programme is to produce IT Professionals who are capable of making a real contribution to their employer within a few months of commencing their roles. It will equip Degree Apprentices with key IT professional skills and knowledge employers need.

You'll pay zero fees

You'll be employed by the partner employer and will receive a salary from them.  You'll pay no fee.

You won't be able to apply for a Living Expenses Student Loan as you'll be expected to fund living expenses from your salary.

The Degree Apprenticeship programme has a common core and occupational pathway options. The core focuses on the study of IT in business and includes a mix of technology, business, project and transferable skills.

The occupational pathways are flexible to your employer and your needs, enabling you to become confident, competent and capable in a range of roles.

The core comprises around 60% of the programme and includes the following topics:

  • Systems Development Fundamentals
  • Data Fundamentals
  • Information and Cyber Security Fundamentals
  • Business Organisation Fundamentals
  • IT Project Management Fundamentals
  • Computer Systems and Network Fundamentals
  • Interpersonal and Foundation Skills Fundamentals

Where this can take you

As a Degree Apprentices, you'll be prepared for a wide variety of IT Professional roles where you'll develop occupational competence in your chosen area. 

The programme has been designed to be flexible enough to meet employers needs and ensure that relevant and flexible pathways can be provided by universities in consultation with employers to support IT Professional roles such as:

  • Cyber Security Analyst
  • Data Analyst
  • Network Engineer

 

Course accreditations

The course is accredited by the Tech Partnership as a Tech Industry Gold Degree Apprenticeship.

The Tech Partnership is a growing collaboration of employers working to create skills for the digital economy. The accreditation is designed to help both employers and young people choose degree apprenticeships that are recognised by industry for their quality and relevance to today’s business environment.

Teaching and assessment

The degree will be delivered by University of Chichester Business School. 

The Business School builds upon the strong reputation that we have earned for delivering high-quality courses in a supportive and friendly environment.

The Business School's programmes are based at the Bognor Regis Campus, which offers state of the art provision in a comfortable and attractive location.

The programme will be delivered over 4 years with each year divided into three 10 week terms.

Apprentices will attend the University for one day each week during term time. 

They will study two modules during each term, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. 

They will be expected to develop this learning in the work place and will typically be assessed using course work to be completed not later than two weeks following the completion of the term. 

The course work is designed to support the development of a range of soft skills including report writing, presentations, and software development.
