This certificate is designed to support individuals, schools or local authorities who are working on programmes or professional learning activities geared to promoting awareness of mental health in schools.
As the education sector focuses on transformative changes that need to be made post-pandemic, concerns regarding mental health and wellbeing have never been so important.
The coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdowns have been unprecedented and have created challenges with commentators expressing concerns for children’s mental and physical health.
On this course you will:

Develop your knowledge and skills of mental health support within education settings
Our PGCert Professional Studies in Education, Mental Health Awareness in Schools course covers issues of mental health relevant to staff and students within educational settings across the UK.
Exploring Research: Informing and Changing Practice
This module supports you to become an agent of change within your workplace. You will consider theoretical frameworks that have a clear focus on the place of practitioner research as a tool for improving practice.
Independent Study: Mental Health Awareness in Schools
This module is designed to support those who are working on programmes or professional learning activities geared to promoting awareness of mental health in schools. Topics include a review of relevant policy documents and guidance; indicators of mental ill-health disorders; consideration of how staff are supported with their mental wellbeing and evidence-based interventions.

Teaching
Delivery of the Postgraduate Certificate: Professional Studies in Education, Mental Health Awareness in Schools takes the form of taught and facilitated sessions over two modules. These will include taught and facilitated sessions plus one-to-one input based at our Bognor Regis campus.
Tutorials will focus upon the substantive topic, facilitating discussion of ideas, research sources and references, theoretical models, policy implications etc.
The delivery of this module will benefit from the use of electronic message board facilities to assist communication between students.
Assessment
You will be asked to demonstrate your independent research skills through literature reviews and essays.
You will be encouraged to complete assignments that are linked to your workplace practice and personal interest.

- An honours degree at 2:2 or higher.
