Lecturer in 3D Animation and VFX

Matthew O'Dell

About

Matt leads the asset creation and simulation aspects of the BA (Hons) 3D Animation and VFX course. He began his career as a user interface artist for Xerox and others, designing icons, animations and interface themes. Keen to get into games design, he then taught himself 3ds Max and joined a London-based games developer as their 2D / 3D artist.

After a career break to study illustration, he began teaching short courses at Chelsea College of Arts and others, before joining Brunel University full time to lead the art strand of their Games Design BA.

In 2016 he moved to the University of Surrey, where he taught, and eventually led, the wide-ranging Digital Media Arts BA. Keen to focus on 3D design, he moved to Chichester in 2022, impressed by the high standard of student outputs.
