Owen Sheriff

Students’ Union President

About

In March 2026, Owen was elected as the Students’ Union President, is Chair of the UCSU Trustee Board and formally took up his role on the University Board of Governors in July 2026.

Owen, and the Students’ Union Vice President, Bel Rogers, will work with the elected part-time officers (Student Council) and course reps and continue to support the introduction of networks for like-minded students from similar backgrounds (Mature, International, Global Majority, LGBTQIA+ and Degree Apprentice) to enhance the learning experience. Owen is also focused on supporting students to socialise together, enhancing the culture where students celebrate each other’s achievements and increase the sense of belonging to the University, make memories and forge some lifelong friendships.

As the elected President of the Students’ Union, Owen ensures that the Students’ Union remains democratic and that the student body plays a part in how things are run. Owen represents the student body both within the University and the wider community through regular meetings with the Vice Chancellor and University Senior Leadership Team, and by participating in a range of meetings and committees, enabling students’ opinions and voices to be heard at a senior level.
