Associate Lecturer (Contemporary Dance)
About
Tory East trained at London Contemporary Dance School, graduating with a 1st Class BA Honors degree.
During her training Tory performed in works by Kerry Nicholls, Henri Oguiku, Richard Alston, Jiri Kylian and a reworking of Jeremy James ‘My Big Pants’.
In 2006 she toured nationally and internationally with the Postgraduate Company Edge in work choreographed by Trisha Brown, Siobhan Davies and Sue MacLennan. Tory was a member of Retina Dance Company from 2006 -2009, under the artistic direction of Filip Van Huffel. Tory also co-directed and choreographed for Retina Youth Company and RAUW, Retina’s site specific performance event for the community.
She has also worked with Victoria Fox for Underground7 Dance Theatre, Zoielogic Dance Theatre and Jam Jar Dance Theatre.
She has taught on the Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) at DanceEast, Northern Contemporary Dance School Summer Intensives and for Shobana Jeyasingh Dance.
Tory is currently the Rehearsal Director of Scatter, the adult performance company of The Place as well as Hampshire Youth Dance Company (HYDC).
Holding a PGCE, she also works as a Dance Specialist working with several schools and colleges across Hampshire.
Her company ‘Overground Fusion’ and HYDC have represented the South East and South West regions at U Dance for Youth Dance England.
Tory is also an approved GCSE set phrase trainer as well as a regular guest teacher for The Place, Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, London Studio Centre, Greenwich Dance Agency and the University of Winchester.
Tory became an Animateur for Rambert Dance Company in 2015.
