Senior Lecturer in Social Work
I have been a qualified social worker for 26 years and during this time I have practiced in a variety of settings which have included Community Mental Health Teams, a secure mental health hospital setting and as leader of a mental health day service. I have worked closely with the Mental Health Act 1983 carrying out Self-Harm and Mental Health Act assessments and I am a Practice Educator, who has been involved in training social work students through their placements.
I have gone on to work within a university setting, where I teach across the BA, DA, MA and post graduate social work programmes. This includes the newly qualified and assessed year in practice programme for social workers working in adult teams and the Practice Education programmes that attract students from several local authorities in the South region.
My PhD research is focussed on informal adult carers and seeks to investigate the choice they have in taking on their caring role and the impact this may have on their citizenship rights within society.
