Year 12 Law Essay Writing Competition

 

In January 2021 David Lammy called for Juries to be reduced from 12 to 7 people to help deal with the backlog of cases due to Covid-19. Discuss the importance of jury trials and whether the jury system should be reformed.

1st Prize: £250, 2nd Prize: £150 and 3rd Prize £100

Deadline:       15th June 2021

Word Limit:    1000 words (not including footnotes or bibliography)

Students should adhere to the following instructions:

  • Each student is only allowed to make one submission, which should be emailed to a.elkington@chi.ac.uk before the deadline.
  • Work received after the deadline will not be considered.
  • Submissions should be the work of one student only.
  • The student’s name and school / college should be included on their work and file name.
  • The essay should be written in Arial font (or similar) of not less than size 12.
  • The essay should be formatted with a portrait orientation with margins of at least 2 centimetres.
  • The essay should be presented with 1.5 line spacing.
  • The essay should be structured with an introduction, main body and conclusion.
  • Students should write in the third person throughout.
  • Students must take care to reference their sources (using a recognisable referencing method) and avoid plargarisation.
