Profile

After serving a four-year apprenticeship in cabinetmaking Ian worked in the trade for six years before returning to education. He received his BA Honours degree in English Literature and Related Arts from Chichester. His M.Phil thesis, written in 1998 is entitled 'On Quality' and investigates the blurring of boundaries between literature and philosophy. Ian is currently researching the ‘Novel of Ideas’ in Walter Pater’s Marius the Epicurean and Thomas Mann’s Magic Mountain. He is also continuing his research into Politics, Philosophy and Aesthetics in the work of three very diverse twentieth-century thinkers: T.S. Eliot, Martin Heidegger, and Theodor W. Adorno.
