Alastair Ross
Associate Lecturer & Vocal Coach
About
Alastair is a professional counter tenor, who studied Early Music and Performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, London.
Having held positions with the choirs of Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Chichester Cathedral, York Minster and Canterbury Cathedral, his specialities are ensemble singing, interpretation and classical/legit technique.
Alongside his work at Chichester University, Alastair is Director of Music for the parish of St. Peter and the Winchester Martyrs. He also sings regularly at Winchester Cathedral.
He has performed as a soloist across the UK and abroad, notably as part of the Malta International Arts Festival, for the Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein.
Alastair’s other passion away from music is football, which led to him studying for an MA in Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland. He can often be seen sporting a football top on campus!
Originally from York, Alastair moved to the South Coast in 2018 to lead The Choir Church Project, an outreach initiative enabling more singing in non-denominational primary schools.
With personal experience of performance anxiety, his primary focus is to nurture those that struggle with confidence and to enable a healthier, emboldened attitude to stage presence.
