Associate Lecturer in Psychology
About
Alex is an associate lecturer and PhD student in psychology at the University of Chichester.
He started working at the university midway through his Advanced Applied Psychology MSci degree, assisted on research projects for Dr Benjamin T. Sharpe exploring the use of transcranial direct current stimulation over the left DPF and its combination with a stress reappraisal task to improve esports performance.
He also assisted Dr Moitree Banerjee and members of the Lab for Global Research on Gender, Sexuality and Identity in collecting data on the mental health of LGBTQ+ young people for the West Sussex County Council. From there, he started work as an associate lecturer in psychology and has continued in this role whilst completing his PhD.
Professional
Alex is a member of the Human Attention Laboratory (HAL) and the Lab for Global Research on Gender, Sexuality and Identity.
Research
In his two dissertations he completed for his MSci degree, he conducted interventional-based research studies with mixed methods designs that aimed to improve well-being in participants.
His first research project explored the effectiveness of diaphragmatic breathing as a stress intervention, whilst his second project investigated the practice of earthing in conjunction with a brief mindfulness intervention.
PhD
Alex is currently studying for his PhD, supervised by Dr Benjamin T. Sharpe.
His PhD is focused on the behaviour of doomscrolling and its impact on wellbeing.
The goal is to develop an intervention that utilises the behaviour in a more positive way.
