Scottish Student Sport

Name: Nicola Scott
Country: UK
Role: Development Manager
Organisation: Scottish Student Sport

My involvement in sport developed throughout my school years where I was a jack of all ‘sports’ semi master at 1/2. I was an avid gymnast and dancer and merged both passions by joining the cheerleader club at university. After studying Forensic Science I was elected as President of Sport and Physical Activity at Robert Gordon University (RGU), where I discovered that my passion was to encourage people to get more active! At RGU, I was President of Sport and Physical Activity and I ran campaigns around physical activity and mental health and celebrating success of athletes and clubs.

Since then, I have had the following career highlights:

  • Sales Manager at Kukri – learning new skills in sales
  • Community Sports Hub Officer – working with young people to engage them in the hub and develop their skills as young leaders
  • Development Manager at Scottish Student Sport, SSS – taking on my first managerial role, being involved in the recruitment process and inducting staff

Throughout my various different roles I have met some incredible individuals both inspiring leaders and athletes including Kelly Holmes, Chris Hoy and Jonathan Edwards.

My significant achievements include improving the governance at RGU ensuring the student voice was heard, achieving an ambition of working for SSS, and developing my skills as a public speaker with audiences including graduation ceremonies, conferences and award dinners.

My values are honesty, integrity, caring, and fun. My leadership strengths include listening, empowering, inspiring, and being motivational.

My passions are:

  • Working across the whole sport sector to ensure an integrated approach
  • Promote lifelong involvement in sport and physical activity
  • Education on the benefit of sport, physical activity and diet for overall health and wellbeing
