“If I had to choose again, this would still be my first-choice university”

Choosing a university is a big decision, and sometimes the best way to get a feel for a place is to hear from the people who experience it daily.

In this blog, we sit down with Aiden, a 3D Animation and VFX student at the University of Chichester, to talk about what life is really like here.

From the support students receive to the industry-standard facilities, Aiden shares his personal journey, the opportunities on offer and what makes studying at Chichester stand out.

Why did you choose to come to Chichester?

I chose Chichester because it radiates a relaxed vibe, and I like that it’s a cute town by the sea.

The 3D Animation and VFX course was perfect since I’ve always been passionate about films and art. It just felt like the right place to nurture those interests.

What are Chichester/Bognor and the surrounding areas like? What do you enjoy most about living here?

Chichester and Bognor have the classic ‘cute town’ feel, with a really scenic atmosphere. You can go for a walk or run pretty much anywhere, and the views are always stunning.

It’s the kind of place where you can unwind, especially with the coast nearby.

What are the tutors like on your course?

The tutors are incredibly supportive. They’re always available for weekly one-on-one sessions, during which they review my work and give feedback, ensuring it’s the best it can be.

It really feels like they care about your progress and make an effort to help you improve.

What are the facilities/equipment like on your course?

The facilities are top-notch.

Our tutor has actually mentioned that the equipment we have access to here is better than what he had access to when he worked at Sony and other major companies in the industry.

It’s seriously high-end stuff, and we’re really fortunate to have access to that kind of technology.

Are you part of any societies or sports teams?

I’m actually the basketball team president, and I absolutely love it! It gives me a strong sense of community.

Joining a society or sports team is a great way to meet like-minded people outside your academic work.

It’s provided a great sense of balance to my academic life.

Do you feel part of a community here?

Definitely! My class is quite small, so we’re all known by our lecturers.

Even if you’re not the most vocal person, the tutors will check in and make sure you’re doing okay.

It really feels like you’re not just a face in the crowd.

What’s the best thing about the University of Chichester?

My best moment so far has been Varsity. The atmosphere during the games was just amazing, and it felt like everyone was part of something special.

Another standout moment for me is Summer Ball.

After all the assignment stress, it’s the perfect way to unwind, dress up and celebrate with friends.

What does 3D Animation mean to you? Why is it important?

3D Animation and VFX are important to me because they combine my biggest passions: art and film.

It’s a craft I’m truly passionate about, and I’ve always felt a drive to improve and push my limits in the field. It’s something that fuels my creativity every day.

What would you say to someone considering coming to the University of Chichester?

Honestly, the vibes here are incredible.

If you make the most of it, you’ll find that this place is a bit of a hidden gem.

It’s not huge, but it’s a place where you really feel heard, and the community is amazing.

If you’re looking for a supportive environment, Chichester is definitely the place to be.

Did you come to an Open Day? If so – what do you remember most about the day?

The Open Day was actually what convinced me to come here. I had a one-on-one conversation with my lecturer, and hearing him talk about the course with such enthusiasm made me want to join straight away.

It was really clear that he loved what he did, and that rubbed off on me.

Do you have any tips for someone preparing to attend an Open Day?

Be open-minded.

When you first visit, you don’t know much about the university, so take in as much as you can and explore everything, not just areas related to the course you’re interested in.

It’s a great opportunity to get a feel for the place as a whole, not just the academics.

How would you sum up your experience here at UoC?

It’s been a blast. I’m really going to miss Chichester and the community here.

The wholesome vibe of the town has definitely rubbed off on me. If I had to choose again, this would still be my first choice for university.
