This module examines the games industry, games studies, and trends in game design and development. It begins by assuming that games are meaningful as cultural expressions worthy of scholarly attention.
You will explore gaming in terms of industrial, textual and player practices, covering numerous aspects which could include: the relationship between games and other media; the significance of third person and first person games; key developments in game design; gamers and the gaming community; the relationship between games and ‘reality’; gender and gaming; and the sociological, cultural, industrial, and economic issues that surround gaming.
