This module offers a survey of French cultural history from the Early Modern period to the Present Day.
You will engage with various historiographical perspectives on French society, religion, politics, economic forces, and international relations, as well as a consideration of the Revolution’s impact on the country’s culture.
You also study the evolution of preferred cultural forms, from the rise of the novel through to the emergence of visual cultures of the 20th century and beyond.
