Earn while you learn with a degree apprenticeship from the University of Chichester

Degree apprentices at the University of Chichester have shared their experiences in the workplace as part of National Apprenticeships Week (9-15 February).

A degree apprenticeship offers the opportunity to learn (usually one day a week) at university alongside a full or part-time paid work placement, allowing students the chance to put theory into practice. Degree apprenticeships are accessible at any point in your career, whether you are just starting out or already in the workforce.

It’s easy to apply, as Electronic and Electrical Engineering Apprentice Finn explained: “I applied through the government website with no hassle and got an interview a couple of weeks later with the company where I work now.”

There are many reasons why the degree apprenticeship route is becoming more popular: no student debt, valuable on-the-job experience and a chance to enter the working world straight away after school or college. Tuition fees are paid by the employer as part of the government apprenticeship scheme.

Degree Apprentice Ivan is studying to become a Software Engineer. He said: “It allows me to continue working and have an income while studying. I couldn’t have stopped working for three years, the return on investment would not have been worth it for me.”

Sam is studying to become a Digital Marketer and works in the marketing team at an international company. He said: “My role involves managing our UK company website, leading email marketing campaigns for external clients, and projects that support our wider digital operations. Over the years, my responsibilities have increased significantly to now delivering presentations to our European teams and directors.”

The University of Chichester offers a variety of Degree Apprenticeships including:

•              Level 3 Fundraising

•              Manufacturing Engineer

•              Digital Marketer

•              Chartered Manager

•              Accounting Finance Manager

•              Data Scientist

•              Nursing Associate (Higher)

•              Software Engineer

•              Business Analyst

•              Electrical Technical Support Engineer

•              Social Worker

Clare, who is studying to be a Nursing Associate, has this advice for anyone considering a Degree Apprenticeship: “Go for it, you will not regret it! You’ll meet like-minded people, gain a wealth of knowledge and gain a qualification while earning money.”
