“I’ve never once regretted coming here – it truly feels like my second home”

Choosing a university can be a life-changing decision, especially as an international student.

For Kshanya, a Dance Education and Teaching student here at the University of Chichester, this journey has been filled with opportunities, personal growth and the support of a welcoming community.

In this blog, we interview Kshanya to hear about her experience at Chichester and get a glimpse into what it’s really like to study here.

Why did you choose to come to Chichester?

Chichester struck the perfect balance for me. It’s a small city with a quiet, peaceful atmosphere, surrounded by nature.

As an international student, I found that Chichester offered the best value in terms of tuition fees and a high standard of teaching.

The staff here are fantastic – welcoming, friendly and always ready to help.

What do you like most about the Chichester/Bognor area?

Chichester is a charming city. Everything is within a 20-minute walk, so it’s super easy to get around. There are plenty of coffee shops and charity shops, and it’s not all about academics.

Students can go out and enjoy themselves, whether it’s going to a local cafe or checking out the nightlife. There’s always something to do.

What are the tutors like on your course?

My tutors are amazing. They’re not only supportive but genuinely open to my questions, no matter how small they may seem.

They’re invested in our success, teaching us the real-world skills we need.

There are also lots of opportunities for us to grow and learn from them, which I really appreciate.

What are the facilities/equipment like in your course?

The facilities are great. We have four spacious dance studios, and a dedicated physio room equipped with yoga balls and other essential equipment, which is great for our overall wellbeing.

Are you part of any societies or sports teams?

Yes. I’m part of our social badminton society. It’s a great way to take a break from the academic side of things and just enjoy being active.

It’s fun to switch off from creativity and just focus on being sporty.

It gives me a chance to relax and connect with others outside my course.

Do you feel part of a community here?

Absolutely. I feel seen and heard. My tutors know me by name, and I never feel lost or overlooked.

There’s a real sense of community here – both among staff and students. It’s easy to reach out for support, and in turn, I’m always ready to give my best.

There’s a genuine feel of mutual support.

What’s the best thing about the University of Chichester?

The opportunities have been incredible. From photoshoots to being an ambassador, giving testimonials and helping out with Open Days, I’ve been able to experience so much.

I think my best moment has been taking a chance on everything offered here.

I’ve really embraced those opportunities and have had the chance to showcase myself and my talents.

What does Dance mean to you? Why is it important?

Chichester was the only university I found that combined education and teaching with the dance programme, and that felt like I’d hit the jackpot.

The course offered so much more than just dance – it’s really about preparing you from a broader perspective.

I feel like I’m getting a comprehensive education that will set me up for success in the future.

What would you say to someone thinking about coming to the University of Chichester?

Go for it!

The openness and the opportunities here are amazing.

The welcoming atmosphere makes you feel like you’re at home.

Honestly, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I haven’t looked back.

Embrace the experience – you won’t regret it!

Did you come to an Open Day? If so, what do you remember most about the day?

My Open Day was super helpful.

The tutors gave an insightful overview of all the dance courses available, which really helped me make my final decision.

A dance lesson was also included, which gave me a real taste of what the course would be like and made me feel confident that I was making the right choice.

Do you have any top tips for attending an Open Day?

Definitely come prepared with questions. When you get the chance to speak, take it!

If there isn’t time during the group sessions, don’t hesitate to approach the tutor or a student ambassador privately. They’re always happy to chat and answer any questions you might have.

Anything else to add to sum up your experience here at UoC?

The University of Chichester has been a fantastic experience. I instantly fell in love with the place, and it’s honestly a dream come true. I’ve never once regretted coming here – it truly feels like my second home.
