Stars of electronica converge on University for unique festival
Chitronics 2015 Cancelled
It is with regret that we have decided to cancel Chitronics 2015 due to circumstances outside our control.
The one day festival-conference was due to take place at the University of Chichester on Friday 12th June. Chitronics is an annual event at Chichester University run by the Department of Film & Media. Each year it celebrates a different aspect of electronic music, presenting interviews, talks, films, and panels, culminating in a concert, and then an after-party, also featuring live music. This year’s event was due to present the work of various Norwegian Artists including Mungolian Jetset, Frost and Mental Overdrive.
The organisers are disappointed that they have had to cancel the event but Chitronics will return next year.

A MUSIC festival with a difference celebrating the origins of electronic and the Norwegian artists who influenced the genre is taking place in Chichester next month.
The Electronica Norsk event, on Friday 12 June, is a behind-the-scenes pass to listen to the genre’s most influential artists through exclusive interviews and live concerts.
The day-long festival, held at the University of Chichester, is part of the annual Chitronics boutique showcasing different aspects of electronica and which, last year, featured the creators of the Doctor Who theme: the Radiophonic Workshop.
Dr Adam Locks, from the University, said: “Norway has long been at the heart of European electronic music and Electronica Norsk pays homage to the immense contribution the country has made to the genre.
“Between the cities of Oslo, Bergen, and Tromsø, the Norwegian electronic scene has reimagined much popular music today including techno, disco, pop, and modern classical.
“We will celebrate it all from the 1960s to the present with feature interviews, film clips, and talks which will get you warmed up before live concerts from its foremost artists.”
The event, which starts at 9:30am, will also present original film footage and panels throughout the day, culminating in a concert and then after-party featuring live music.
It will be headlined by tribal electro-funk outfit Mungolian Jetset, which includes famed DJ and turntablist Pål “Strangefruit” Nyhus and producer Knut Sævik.
The group will be supported by Norwegian electronica duo Frost, above, fronted by its namesake Aggie Frost, whose past three albums proved cult hits in the UK and USA.
The festival also includes performances by electro act Mental Overdrive and its frontman Per Martinson: a music producer since the 1990s, and the other side of duo Frost, who will be performing a DJ set at the after party.
Dr Locks added: “Electronica’s work with oscillators in the 1960s was at the vanguard of classical modernism, and groups such as A-Ha embraced synthesizers in the following decades, but it was really the 1990s that saw Norway come alive to electronica.
“Clubland was mesmerized from 2005 onwards, when DJ-producers including Mungolian Jetset’s Pål ‘Strangefruit’ Nyhus began touting a hypnotic blend of Italo-disco, house and classic pop.
“The coming of dance music then seemed to connect with the nation and outfits such as Mental Overdrive made their presence felt among the first waves of European techno.”
Tickets for Electronica Norsk, which includes access to the day-long event, evening concert and after party, cost either £20 each or £22 with on-site car parking, when purchased in advanced from www.chitronics.co.uk.
Entry for only the evening concert and after party start from £10 per person when purchased in advanced – there will be a £5 fee added to tickets bought on the door.
