Optional module – SEND specialism
This module will consider the historical and current legal and social perspectives on the care of people with disabilities across the life course.
The notion of “care” and its impact on the lived experience of disabled people and their families will be explored.
Central to the module will be ethical and safeguarding issues and the potentially competing concerns of carers and service users and service providers.
Practice implications will be discussed, and the power of the legal framework explored. This will be evaluated in relation to models of care that include individual choice, advocacy empowerment and social justice.
