This module critically evaluates the discourses and models of disability and inclusive education to develop insights into the interrelationship between social and historical policy, political frameworks and ideological perspectives on SEND.
You will be encouraged to engage critically with the tensions, limitations and practices in special education, helping them to reframe and define their own research and practice.
It examines current debates on SEND categorisation, policies of inclusion and exclusion in relation to issues of social justice and equality of opportunity. A review of relevant literature will encourage you to engage critically and professionally in debates about educational practices for pupils with SEND by making substantial links with theory and workplace practice.
