This module considers the lyrics and narrative primarily through the work of key exemplars. Special consideration will be given to problems of formal analysis and the application of the conventions of a musicology to an artistic period so much defined by the work of a surprisingly small group of outstanding artists. A variety of works will be studied, solo, ensemble, commercial and political, and you will undertake the preparation of a presentation of new material relating to an identified model from a 20th or 21st century artist.
