Opera

This module explores the development of opera from its innovation in the early 1600s through into the 20th century. You will consider the social and political context in which they were conceived, as well as examine relationships between communication, structural organisation and musical style. Using visual, literary and dramatic stimuli, you will  compare strategies in instrumental and choral music, secular and sacred.
