This module explores the definition and nature of the ‘icon’ within the context of film and investigates how and why actors and actresses might acquire icon status over time.

This module walks you through the various paradigms within the film industry and the use of filmic devices for dramatic and expressive intention.

You will select an area of your own repertoire to research theoretically and in terms of its broader context, presenting results either in written form or as a linked sequence of performance recordings.

Reflect on the specialist practice that exists within your own discipline and examine the raft of individual elements reflected in tessitura, articulation and dynamics, as well as more innovative techniques of performance and teaching.

Develop an understanding of the close relationship between musical performance and extramusical communication skills, reviewing and analysing the work of a range of artists and practitioners relevant to your area of interest.
