Law students experience traditions of the Bar during London trip

Law students from the University of Chichester travelled to London to experience the traditions of the professional barrister community.
A group of first-year students of the LLB Law course visited The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, one of the four Inns of Court in London; professional associations for barristers in England and Wales. The Chichester students attended the Lincoln’s Inn Information Afternoon and Dinner 2026, which are events for prospective barristers to explore a career at the Bar, often involving networking, talks and dining with members.
The students who took part were Kieran Harrison, Alex Hayden, Haroun Mohammed and Ethan Miles, who were selected for their academic performance, contributions in class and potential as future advocates.
After the trip, Kieran said: “This was an amazing opportunity to get to meet law students from all over the UK and discuss why they want to pursue a career as a barrister. I had the pleasure to network with students from Cardiff Met, Manchester, Aberdeen and several other universities who I had great conversations with.
“I particularly enjoyed the meet the bar panel where I had the pleasure to hear talks from several barristers who are members at the inn. The talks really inspired me; as someone who’s a first-gen university student and who studies at a non-Russell group university; that I can actually make it to the bar, with it no longer being exclusively for Oxbridge and upper-class students, but a diverse system based on merit.”
Keith Sinclair, lecturer in Law at the University of Chichester, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our law students to experience firsthand the traditions and professional community of the Bar. Engaging directly with practising barristers helps students bring their studies to life, deepen their confidence, and better visualise their own future in the profession. The Law Department and I are excited to continue supporting our aspiring advocates and are looking forward to plenty more opportunities in the future!”
