New funded Social Sciences PhD pathway for Psychology at the University of Chichester

Student in Theology lesson

New opportunities for funded Social Sciences PhD research in the field of Psychology are now open for application at the University of Chichester. Thanks to our inclusion in the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership, funded places are available for talented doctoral candidates who want to shape the future of Psychology.

This includes:

  • Access to fully funded ESRC doctoral studentships, including stipend, fees, and research training support.
  • Exceptional training and development programmes, combining advanced methodological training, interdisciplinary collaboration, and applied research skills.
  • Opportunities to work across universities and sectors, supported by world-leading academics and research groups working on some of the most pressing social, behavioural, and psychological challenges of our time.
  • A vibrant, supportive doctoral community that encourages innovation, critical inquiry, and real-world impact.

Professor Antonina Pereira, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities said: “I am absolutely delighted to share this milestone for our university, one that speaks to the strength, ambition, and excellence of our Psychology community and to the remarkable work of colleagues across our faculty and beyond!

“Being welcomed into the South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership is a clear recognition of the research quality, training environment, and academic leadership within our Psychology provision. The ESRC is widely regarded as the gold standard for social science research in the UK, and joining this highly competitive and prestigious partnership places us alongside institutions with long-established doctoral ecosystems.”

This achievement positions the University of Chichester even more strongly on the national stage, underlining its commitment to research excellence that is socially relevant, theoretically rigorous, and grounded in values of inclusion, ethical practice, and meaningful impact.

Professor Pereira added: “We look forward to welcoming the first group of ESRC-funded Psychology doctoral researchers and to continuing to build a supportive, ambitious and impactful research community that advances knowledge and makes a real difference in the world.”
