Our People – Connor Nyberg
Dr Connor Nyberg is a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy.Â
Tell us about your role at the university.Â
I wear quite a few hats in my role, and that’s exactly what I enjoy most about it. I’m a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy, which means I’m involved in everything from running clinics, admissions and research supervision to journal editing and supporting students on their journeys. Whether I’m hearing about their goals, celebrating their achievements, or helping them through challenges, every day brings something new and meaningful.Â
When did you join and what brought you here?Â
I joined in 2023. At first, I was working part time so I could continue my NHS role while staying active in research. That changed quickly when I was offered a full-time position, and I’ve absolutely loved being part of the university community ever since.Â
What’s an average day at work like for you?Â
There’s no such thing as an average day, and that’s what keeps things exciting. Most mornings start with a workout (I say that loosely) alongside a colleague, which is a great way to reset and get in the right headspace. From there, my day might involve preparing lectures, supervising research, doing admissions work, or supporting students. I see students on some of their toughest days and also at their proudest moments, like graduation. It’s a real privilege to be part of that range of experiences.Â
What do you love most about working at the University of Chichester?Â
What I value most is that I truly know my students. That personal connection makes the work incredibly meaningful.Â
What is your greatest achievement in your job or research?Â
Clinically, working in elite sport was a standout. Academically, completing my doctorate was a major achievement. Recently, I’ve been accepted to present research at a national conference this coming November alongside one of my students, so that will be a moment of real pride. And on a personal note, completing an Ironman will always stay with me, not just for the challenge itself, but for the incredible support team that got me there. Across every area, the common thread is collaboration and shared purpose.Â
Is there anything else you’d like to add?Â
No matter where you are on your journey, keep showing up and stay curious. Progress often comes in small steps, not giant leaps. Surround yourself with people who challenge, support and encourage you, and never lose sight of why you started. Every challenge brings growth, and every bit of effort builds towards something greater. Keep going, and you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.Â
