University hosts the official launch of Chichester Monopoly

Mr Monopoly made an appearance at the University of Chichester today (March 6) at the VIP launch of the new Chichester Monopoly.

As the board was unveiled it was revealed the University, which hosted the launch at the Zee Bar, is one of the prestigious green properties – Regent Street on the original Monopoly board.

Other Chichester landmarks featured on the board included the Festival Theatre, Market Cross and the Cathedral.

Dozens of people attended the launch including the Mayor of Chichester, as well as representatives from local businesses, charities and other organisations which feature on the board. These included three Chichester charities; Stonepillow, the Young People’s Shop and Chichester Community Development Trust.

Also attending were staff and students from the University, including Interim Provost, Dr Mark Mason, who said: “We are delighted to be hosting this official event. We’re also a green property which is a special honour for us.

“We have staff, students, businesses and local charities here, you are all very welcome. We take that responsibility for civic engagement very seriously.

“I’m very proud to have grown up here and we’re very proud to be part of the community. We are here for you and we are here to support you and your endeavours.”

The Mayor of Chichester, Councillor Sean McHale, said: “I am very proud that Chichester has been chosen as the latest edition of the iconic Monopoly game, that is now hitting the shops.

“Those of us that live here, know all about the many wonderful features of our city.

“It is a compliment to all that contribute to the fabric of Chichester that we have been given this honour.

“It really is a wonderful place to live and work and I am grateful to Monopoly for showcasing our landmarks on the new game.”

Claire Nowell, Events and External Relations Manager at the University of Chichester said:  “We’re thrilled that the University of Chichester features on such a prominent square on the new Monopoly: Chichester Edition board.

“Getting to host the official launch is a wonderful moment for our students, staff and wider community – and we’re proud to be part of a game that will be enjoyed by families for years to come.”
