University of Chichester supports Holocaust Memorial Day event

The University of Chichester marked Holocaust Memorial Day in partnership with novelist and historian Kate Mosse, Chichester Marks Holocaust Memorial Day (CMHMD), and Chichester Festival Theatre.

On the 27 January 2026, Visiting Professor in Creative Writing and Contemporary Fiction at University of Chichester Kate Mosse delivered her new one-woman show commissioned for CMHMD ‘Honouring Courageous Women’ which commemorated the courage and influence of key women figures from the medieval period to the twenty first century.

In two sold-out performances at the Minvera Theatre, attended by over 800 members of the public and several local schools, Kate explained that women had been vital in resistance against the Nazi Holocaust and against other repressive regimes throughout history. Her outstanding talk followed on from two days of Holocaust history classes delivered for primary and secondary schools from West Sussex hosted at the New Park Cinema and organized by Chichester Marks Holocaust Memorial Day.

Kate said: “It was a great honour to again be asked to create a special event to support CMHMD, an organisation that is crucially important in reminding us of the horrors of the Holocaust.  I was also pleased to be able to support my nominated charity, Untold Narratives, an organisation that provides support and opportunities for writers in marginalised communities and war zones, in particular Afghanistan.”

The University’s commemorations of Holocaust Memorial Day began in 2014 and have included partnerships to deliver historical, creative and artistic events to mark the event.
