Gemma Matthews
Lecturer in Nursing
About
Gemma graduated with a 1st Class Honours degree in Adult Nursing from the University of Surrey following completion of a BA Hons in Education from the University of Brighton.
She began her nursing career as a Community Nurse in Sussex. The diverse nature of this role enabled Gemma to develop a wide skill set; confidently able to manage complex medical and social situations with understanding and empathy. During this time, she supported students and this is where her passion for nursing education began. This passion led Gemma into the role of Practice Education Facilitator where she remained for 6 years, covering both community and inpatient settings.
This role enabled Gemma to support learners in developing their skills and confidence in the community setting whilst expanding wider clinical placement opportunities throughout the trust. Simultaneously, Gemma attended the University of Canterbury Professional Nursing and Midwifery Advocacy course; successfully becoming a Professional Nurse Advocate and enabling delivery of Restorative Clinical Supervision to nurses trust wide, alongside promoting the Quality Improvement Agenda through compassionate and supportive leadership models.
Gemma’s passion for community nursing remains with her at all times and she is committed to maintaining the highest standards of nursing care in the community.
Her move to the University of Chichester enables Gemma to combine all of her passions into one role and she is committed to providing quality nurse education to ensure safe, person centred, evidence-based care delivery to patients.
