Amy Keates
Associate Lecturer in Nursing
About
Amy has over 20 years of experience caring for critically unwell and deteriorating patients and graduated from the University of Surrey with a degree in Health Sciences and Adult Nursing.
Amy started her nursing career on a general surgical ward, where she was able to establish a strong foundation of nursing knowledge and skills. From this, she developed a keen interest in caring for critically ill and deteriorating patients and worked in intensive care for 10 years. During this time, Amy became interested in clinical education and became involved in providing deteriorating patient education within the hospital.
Amy has been in her current clinical role as a critical care outreach nurse for almost 10 years, which combines both of her interests: care of the critically ill patient and providing education to support others to deliver high-quality, evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes.
Alongside her clinical role, Amy joined the university of Chichester in 2023 to lead a postgraduate module in advanced physical assessment of adults and has provided some teaching for undergraduate nursing students within areas of her clinical expertise.
Amy has completed a PG cert in Education for health professionals, and is currently undertaking a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Simulation and working towards an MSc in Clinical Education.
