Award-winning author talks children’s fantasy literature

AN award-winning historian and leading critic of children’s fantasy literature will be talking about the release of her new book at the University of Chichester next month.

Professor Farah Mendlesohn, a literary historian at Anglia Ruskin University, will be speaking on Monday 14 November about her latest work and the recently co-authored publication Children’s Fantasy Literature: An Introduction.

The event has been arranged by the Sussex Centre for Folklore, Fairy Tales, and Fantasy based at the University of Chichester which provides a forum for writers and scholars to discuss mythology and other traditional narratives.

Organiser Heather Robbins said: “Fantasy has been an important and much-loved part of children’s literature for hundreds of years yet relatively little has been written about it.

“Professor Mendlesohn will be talking about her recent co-authored publication which examines the works of Roald Dahl, JK Rowling, Lewis Carroll and others from across the English-speaking world to place each in its appropriate context within the fantasy tradition.”

The event, which starts at 6pm, will be held in L04 of the University’s Bishop Otter campus in Chichester, PO19 6PE. Tickets cost £5 each, or £3 for concessions, and are free for students and staff.
