What is Clearing?

Another way into university

Clearing happens every year to help students find the right university for the upcoming September.

It might be right for you if:

  • You're applying after 2 July 2026.
  • You didn’t get or accept any offers.
  • You are unsure you will meet the condition of your offer(s).
  • You did not get the grades you hoped for on Results Day.
  • You haven't been accepted by your Firm or Insurance choices.
  • You’ve changed your mind about your course or university.

When can I apply?

Apply through Clearing on results day

When you receive your grades on Results Day in August, you can apply for the course you're interested in studying.

As soon as you have your results, call our Clearing hotline, where our team will be able to check your qualifications and take you through the application process.

How can I prepare for results day?

Your Clearing checklist

Whether you're unsure you'll achieve the grades you are hoping for or you'd simply like to change where and what you're studying in September, here's how you can prepare:

  • Research the course you want to apply for
  • Explore our accommodation
  • Know your UCAS ID number
  • Be ready to calculate your UCAS tariff points

When can I apply?

Apply from 2 July

If you have completed your qualifications and already have your grades, you can apply as soon as Clearing opens on 2 July. Our Admissions team are here to help you through the next steps.

You can either:

  • Call our Clearing hotline and apply over the phone.
  • Email our admissions team to apply.

Top things to do in Chichester

Chichester is a thriving city full of everything you would expect from city life.

It has everything you need – a cinema, bowling alley, park, shopping, theatre, bars and restaurants.

We are also lucky to be close to areas of outstanding natural beauty, including the South Downs National Park and our blue flag beach at West Wittering.

Top things to do in Bognor Regis

This famous seaside destination has a high street just a short walk from the beach front, with shops, pubs and restaurants.

Fancy a day at the beach? Bognor Regis has a sand and shingle beach which is 915 steps from the campus.

Other attractions include crazy golf, Picturedrome cinema, sailing, scuba diving, the BASE skatepark, local theatres and a nightclub on the pier.

Being a commuter

Understand your options as a commuting student

You may prefer to or need to commute to university rather than stay in student accommodation.

With excellent public transport links, student parking rates, and on-campus bike storage, we welcome those commuting through a variety of means.

Cycling to university

  • Approximately 160 covered cycle spaces at the Bishop Otter campus in Chichester and 90 covered spaces at Bognor Regis.
  • No charge for cycles parked in these spaces.
  • Secure storage compounds at both campuses.
  • Free access to secure storage compounds on both campuses with your campus card.

Subsidised bus travel for students

  • Bus stops at both campuses.
  • Subsidised travel on applicable Stagecoach buses.
  • Travelling by bus helps reduce local congestion and air pollution.

Parking your car on campus

Students who live outside the exclusion zone (1.5 miles radius from their main campus) will be eligible to park on campus.

Parking currently costs £1.45 per day for students, with income going towards the implementation of the University's Sustainable travel plan.

Our Bishop Otter Campus in Chichester is set in beautiful surroundings with plenty of relaxing green space and a combination of attractive, historic buildings and excellent modern facilities.

Founded by Bishop of Chichester William Otter in 1839, the University still retains a strong sense of history as original parts still remain.
