High score for University’s learning community in the National Student Survey 2018

STUDENTS at the University of Chichester have ranked their university in the top tier of learning communities in the country, according to the National Student Survey (NSS) 2018.

The national rankings, which are published today, show that students rated the Learning Community at the Chichester and Bognor campuses at 15th in the country, out of 155 Higher Education Institutions. More than 320,000 students took part in the annual survey answering questions on the quality of their courses and their overall experience of higher education.

Commenting on the Learning Community category, University Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane Longmore said: “This result reflects our deep commitment to the quality of the academic and social experience that our students receive. Staff are dedicated to providing our students with a real sense of belonging, which helps them to exceed their expectations. When I ask students what makes our University special, they tell me that this is a community where everyone is included.”

Five of the University of Chichester’s subject areas are in the Top 10 in the country for Overall Satisfaction, with three subjects in the top five. These are:

  • 1st (equal): Theology and Religious Studies
  • 3rd: Marketing
  • 5th: Imaginative Writing

The annual NSS survey, which is commissioned by the Government’s Office for Students and run by Ipsos MORI, is aimed at final-year students. It is designed to gather opinions about their time spent in higher education through 27 core questions, across eight areas, covering their experiences at university.

The University of Chichester’s overall satisfaction score matched the national average score of 83 per cent. This is in the context of a decline in overall student satisfaction, of one per cent, across the Higher Education sector compared with last year.

The Office of Students has stated that across the sector overall, many questions have maintained their satisfaction levels including the student voice, academic support, learning resources and assessment and feedback questions. To find out more about how the University of Chichester provides an inclusive and enriching experience of higher education for its students, visit www.chi.ac.uk/about-us.
