Historian supports Newly Qualified Modern Language teachers for The Prince’s Teaching Institute
Head of History and Politics at University of Chichester Dr Hugo Frey has for a second year been invited as an inspirational lecture to support early career teachers working on GCSE and A level French.
Through three workshops, held in Birmingham, London and Manchester, he will offer key information and historical context on the cinema of Louis Malle for The Prince’s Teaching Institute’s (PTI) New Teacher Subject Days aimed at supporting the teaching profession. The PTI is one of the country’s key charities working to encourage and support the teaching profession and part of its role is to connect international researchers to the people educating the next generation.
The workshops provide teachers with cutting edge knowledge and provide a space for them to meet the people shaping the curriculum. This is the second year that Hugo has lectured on the cinema of Louis Malle for the Institute. This is because he remains the author of the only English language book on the director (published with Manchester University Press) and also because Malle’s film Au revoir les enfants is key text for many French exam boards.
Hugo said: “I am delighted to have been asked to help the profession. It was especially pleasing to be asked to talk about Malle as his films remain so pertinent. It is also a great opportunity for me to talk about my research and help shape how it is being used by brilliant teachers across the country. The PTI are a fabulous organization and I am one hundred percent in support of their aim to provide teachers with new knowledge and professional development.”
