More success as University is ranked in top 50 by Times and Sunday Times

  • Chichester named 46th-best UK university by Times and Sunday Times
  • Good University Guide praises institution for high student satisfaction rates
  • Follows Chichester’s top-30 rating in the Guardian University Guide earlier this month

THE University of Chichester has once again ranked highly in the national league tables after being named in the UK’s top 50.

Ratings by the Times and Sunday Times 2021 Good University Guide placed Chichester in 46th position out of 135 higher education institutions. It comes just weeks after it was named as the 29th-best in the country by the Guardian University Guide, owing to its high student-satisfaction rates and graduate prospects.

Welcoming the Times and Sunday Times results, Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane Longmore said: “This is yet another indication of our University’s outstanding quality and excellent teaching that helps our students thrive within a supportive community of learning. We are delighted to be recognised for our exceptional completion rates and enhanced graduate outcomes as it demonstrates that a degree from the University of Chichester is extremely valuable.”

The 2021 Times and Sunday Times guide, which provides one of the most authoritative reports to UK higher education, also shows that Chichester is the sixth-best university in the South East region.

The West Sussex-based university was judged against nine indicators which revealed that it excels in providing first-rate teaching quality, as well as high degree completion rates. It also praised its excellent satisfaction rates among students of all ages.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Dr Mark Mason, who is responsible for student experience, added: “Ensuring our students receive a personalised and transformative educational experience is a core principle of our University, so it is extremely pleasing to again be recognised for our high teaching quality, student satisfaction, and completion rates.

“These results are also evidence of the hard work that our wonderful staff put in day after day to support our students, many of whom say that they feel a valued part of our learning community from their very first day with us.”

Both Times and Guardian rankings are the result of years of dedication to creating a community which enables the students to thrive, said its Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Simeon Keates.

“We have built an environment where students prosper, where their skills are encouraged, and where, equally importantly, they have a good time in fine surroundings, enjoying the full support of our staff. This has been a key tenet for Chichester since we first opened in 1839.”
