University announces partnership with leading performing arts conservatoire
A PARTNERSHIP between the University of Chichester and one of the country’s leading institutions for musical theatre and dance training has been launched to develop a new generation of artists.
The venture between the West Sussex institution and Essex-based Performers College intends to establish a new degree starting in September 2018. The BA Honours programme will be validated by the University but hosted at the College to offer comparable training to its venerated diploma courses.
Andrew Wright, a Senior Lecturer in Musical Theatre at the University, will act as liaison tutor and course advisor. He said: “I am thrilled to be leading on this very exciting collaboration between Chichester and the renowned training institution that is Performers College.
“Having trained in a similar conservatoire environment, I feel well positioned to advise on the ways in which we can create a programme reflecting the high-quality of training the college already offers on its diploma course and align it with the academic frameworks a degree programme requires. I hope this initiative will foster a connection between the two institutions that leads to the potential for our students to share performance opportunities in the future.”
The partnership with Performers College, an independent Further Education conservatoire, is the first of its kind established by the University. The new degree programme intends to provide the students with the skills and experience necessary to start a career on-stage or work towards higher education learning in an academic learning environment.
College Principal Tracey Lee said: “Performers College is absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with University of Chichester to deliver a BA Honours degree to complement our existing level six Trinity College London diploma courses. We are thrilled to be working alongside University faculty and we are looking forward to offering this exciting new course from September 2018.”
