University calls on employers to think about apprenticeships
The UNIVERSITY of Chichester is calling on more employers across the south of England to think about apprenticeships – by participating in a specialist event this month.
The ‘Apprenticeships – Busting the Myths’ event, hosted on Tuesday 30 April, will be led by employers with a range of experience in running successful programmes to overcome any myths that stand in the way of firms investing in and benefiting from apprentices.
It is aimed at those with an interest in running or establishing apprenticeship programmes, and has been organised by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the University of Chichester, Chichester College Group, and Gatwick Diamond Business.
The University of Chichester has more than 100 students across it ten apprenticeship programmes. All of its courses, available to existing employees or new apprentice recruits, allow students to combine study for an under-or postgraduate degree with a full time job.
The ‘Apprenticeships – Busting the Myths’ event will be attended by Sandra Coley, Director of Enterprise Services at the University, who will be taking part in a question and answer session.
She will be joined by NatWest director Peter Quilter, Elite Hotels group manager Paul Coley, Thales’ head of apprentice development Kirsti Godson, and Lighthouse Systems technical director Gary Marshall. The topics discussed by the speakers will include:
- Apprenticeship levy funding
- The impact of apprenticeships at all levels from participating employers, the benefits to their organisations, and personal performance
- The process of getting involved in and setting up apprenticeship programmes
- Feedback from employers and providers about apprenticeship programmes
Following the main presentations, there will be interactive sessions for delegates to explore issues further with the main speakers and other panellists.
Andrew Adams, Business Development Manager from the University, said: “The conference will appeal to those interested in learning how they can take full advantage of the opportunities available to grow their businesses. There will be a good range of speakers each of whom has employed apprentices at different levels and in different sectors, including hospitality, finance, IT, Engineering, and telecoms.”
The ‘Apprenticeships – Busting the Myths’ event is being hosted at Ashdown Park Hotel and Country Club, Wych Cross, Forest Row, RH18 5JR.
