Why I chose to study Medieval and Early Modern History at the University of Chichester
Why did you choose the University of Chichester?
The university had a really positive atmosphere and everybody I spoke to on the open day were very welcoming. It was clear that the University of Chichester was a friendly institution which, for me, put it above all the other universities I had looked at, as I immediately felt like it was the place for me.
Why did you choose to study Medieval and Early Modern History?
I chose to study Medieval and Early Modern History as it was a course tailored to my specific historical interests. This is a rather niche course, not offered very regularly.
How do you think you’ll use your degree after graduation?
I want to use my degree to apply for the Civil Service.
What’s been your favourite module and why?
My first-year module called ‘Making History’ unlocked a new interest in the field of Environmental History which I had not studied prior to the module. As a result of this module, I am writing my dissertation around this field.
What opportunities and/or achievements have you gained from studying this course?
During my second year, I undertook a work placement at the West Sussex Records Office and gained experience in Archiving.
What teaching methods do your lecturers use and what support is available?
My lecturers use a variety of teaching methods from PowerPoint and handouts, to simply speaking, so you choose what is important to note down. Alongside this, we also have seminars, which enables us to discuss, in greater depth, any set readings or primary sources. This ensures that I am getting the best out of my lectures and seminars.
