This module considers the significant issues in textual interpretation of the Bible, as you examine historical-critical methods and explore the interpretive issues surrounding the quest for the historical Jesus. This will include a discussion of significant debates and the views of the major scholars, and an evaluation over the appropriateness of the historical methods they employ. From here, you will explore literary and reader-centred approaches to biblical texts, as you consider how the interpretive context of the reader plays a role in interpretation focusing on feminist, liberation, post-colonial and other contextual interpretations of scripture.
