The Course
Study the foundations of law alongside business focused modules
You will study the foundations of law and qualify as a lawyer, and take modules from the business school. You’ll be studying criminal law and tort alongside entrepreneurship and economics for business.
As a qualifying law degree, you can complete our SQE preparation course at the end of your degree to progress to the next stage of becoming a solicitor.

Introduction to the English Legal System
This module introduces you to the different aspects of the English legal system. You will examine the different ways laws are made and interpreted in court, and form an understanding of the different personnel and courts within the English legal system, looking at how effectively these operate. This module will also include an introduction to legal research and methods.
Criminal Law
This module introduces you to the different aspects of criminal law, which examines the theory underpinning criminal law and the elements of criminal liability, as well as providing an understanding of a range of criminal offences and the ability to analyse and evaluate related case law.
You will also continue to develop legal reasoning, research and referencing skills.
Contract Law
This module will introduce you to the different aspects of contract law.  You will study the nature of contract law and the fundamental elements of a valid legal contract.
You will also develop an understanding of contractual terms, vitiating factors, termination of a contract, as well as remedies in the event of a breach.
You will continue to develop legal reasoning, research and referencing skills.
Constitutional Law
This module examines the different aspects of constitutional law, which involves the nature and the structure of the UK Constitution, as well as the impact of membership of the European Union and the Human Rights Act 1998. You will also continue to develop legal reasoning, research and referencing skills.
Tort Law
This module introduces you to the concept of tort law and a range of torts, including negligence, Occupiers’ liability, Product liability and Nuisance. You will develop legal reasoning, research and referencing skills.
Sustainable and Innovative Entrepreneur
This module aims to equip you with an understanding of sustainability in the context of entrepreneurship and innovation. You will learn about integrating sustainability principles into entrepreneurial ventures and the role of sustainable innovations in addressing global challenges, as well as exploring how this is achieved in different industries and organisations.
A key focus will be on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), corporate social responsibility (CSR), sustainability theory and the role of innovation in fostering a sustainable future. You will apply your learning by exploring real-world challenges and creating innovative solutions through project-based learning.
Human Rights and Administrative Law
In this module, you will continue to study public law by focusing on administrative law.  You will examine the development of judicial review and explore human rights law. This considers different substantive areas of law under the European Convention Human Rights including absolute, limited and qualified rights.
You will continue to develop legal reasoning, research and referencing skills.
Intellectual Property Law
OptionalThis module provides a study of intellectual property law. You will examine different areas of intellectual property: patents, copyright, industrial design, registered trademarks, unregistered trademarks (passing off), computer programs and databases, and confidential information. You will consider the conditions for protection, scope of protection, duration and remedies.
Company Law
OptionalIn this module you will study the law relating to the practical aspects of setting up and running a business. This will include learning about business organisations, rules and procedures, as well as examining the different types of tax in relation to businesses.
Employee Experience and Key People Management (HRM) Practices
OptionalThis module aims to provide and develop your understanding of key concepts, practices and processes for creating a positive employee experience and the successful management of people.
It outlines the theory and key principles and practices of workforce planning and resourcing, managing and developing performance reward and talent retention.
It also aims to equip you with an appreciation of the interpersonal skills that are needed to manage people within various types of work organisations.
The session learning activities, tasks and literature provide a structure through which to locate these key People Management (HRM) practices within both the context of different organisations and the field of contemporary management from a national and international perspective
Aspects of EU Law
This module introduces you to European Union Law and the impetus behind the formation of the European Union.
You will examine the law-making institutions of the European Union, the different sources of EU Law and the fundamental freedoms provided by the Treaties.
You will examine the impact of EU law including on the free movement of goods, persons, services and capital, as well as competition between Member States as the foundational principles underpinning the Single Market.
You will also study the impact of EU law on the constitution of Member States and the means by which individuals may enforce EU-derived rights.
Dispute Resolution
OptionalThis module develops your knowledge and practical application of Tort Law, introducing you to different options and processes for resolving civil disputes.
Legal Work Placement
OptionalThe aim of this module is for you to undertake a work placement to apply your academic learning in a related employment setting and for you to develop the required competencies for your profession of choice.
Emphasis will be placed upon the development of vocational and employability skills, alongside reflection and the development of skills for lifelong learning.
Employment Law
OptionalIn this module, students will develop a critical understanding of contemporary issues within employment law, statutory provisions, and case law. This will include examining the employment contract, rights and responsibilities of employees and employers, and how employment can be terminated.
Land Law
In this module, you will study how land is classified, the different legal and equitable interests in land, the conveyancing process and the core principles of planning law.
Dissertation
You will produce a dissertation which, as the culmination of your undergraduate studies, will enable you to engage with, and participate in, research and scholarship appropriate to your object of study.
Strategic and Ethical Thinking
OptionalThis module comprises two parts:
1 –Â Self-reflection on your personal ethical values and;
2 – Applying this insight to critiquing existing and creating new strategies that incorporate relevant ethical and stakeholder considerations.
The module starts with an exploration of your own ethical beliefs, values and moral compass and the impact this has on your future careers and reflecting on your own strategic approach.
Throughout the module, you are introduced to a range of strategic, leadership/management/ethical and sustainable concepts, theories and models to analyse and evaluate current and prospective organisational strategies from competitive and ethical perspectives.
You will develop your ability to be more sophisticated in selecting and applying models, theories and research. This involves exploring how to apply fewer models more deeply and critically, and seeking opportunities to synthesise and sequence theory in preparation for a career as an entry-level strategist.
Cyberlaw
OptionalThe aim of this module is for you to develop an understanding of a range of contemporary legal and regulatory issues relating to the internet, internet-related technologies, the web and various online ecosystems.
The module will consider discrete thematic, contemporary topics, all connected to the online cyber sphere.  Some of the topics are regulatory, others concern civil law, and some involve criminal offences.
It is a highly topical module and ever-changing, as human engagement with these online ecosystems is in a constant state of flux and development.
The module will examine domestic, comparative and international legal and regulatory responses, offering a contextual, critical perspective on the subject matter.
Equity and Trusts
In this module, you will study how the law of equity was developed, express and implied trusts, the fiduciary relationship, trustees’ duties, powers and liability, and the different equitable remedies. You will also examine the rules relating to wills, intestacy, probate and administration of estates.
International Sports Law 
OptionalThis module examines the study of law and its relationship with the world of sport, exploring whether Sports Law exists as its own legal dimension or whether it is a collection of legal rules and principles.
This module will focus on the rules and regulation of sports domestically in the UK but also the development of the international framework of sporting regulation.
You will also look at the regulation and commercial development of sports as well as its relationship with other areas of law, including criminal law, contract law, tort law and human rights law.
The Future of Global Business
OptionalThis module explores the historical evolution, current landscape, and potential futures of global business. You will critically evaluate how various aspects of global business influence international business practices.
This module is particularly interesting for students who would like to explore what is happening in the world and its impacts on business.
The aim is to equip you with a comprehensive understanding of global business trends and strategic foresight, which are necessary for operating in an increasingly complex and dynamic global environment, whether in the private, public or voluntary sector.
Each week a new global topic will be explored using a range of quantitative and qualitative data from reliable sources that are typically used by global decision makers. This approach will provide you with an in-depth understanding of key responsibilities and challenges that a range of organisations operate within at a global level and engagement with different types of research e.g. global databases, organisations and consultancies.

Smaller class sizes
You will learn in small groups to allow our experienced and expert staff to mould their teaching around you.
Teaching sessions are interactive and include case analysis, interpretation of statutes, debates and discussion on every core aspect of English law.
More than just exams
We use a wide range of assessment methods rather than relying just on exams.
As such, none of the modules are 100% exams, but rather a blend of coursework, mock trials, presentations, academic posters, mock client interviews, and negotiations.
Modules are assessed at every stage of the course, allowing you to clearly see your academic progress.

Preparation for SQE
Dedicated support for new postgraduate examinations for solicitors
The way to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales has changed through the introduction of a new postgraduate examination process known as the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations, known as SQE 1 and SQE 2.
You will be supported in preparing for the first of the Solicitor’s Qualifying Examinations, which you can sit after completing your degree.
This will include:
- How to make a bail application.
- The role of a duty solicitor in a police station.
- How to bring a claim in the civil courts.
- The methods of resolving a dispute without resorting to court.
Work Placements
Gain vital experience through our strong links with professional settings
During your second year, you will have the opportunity to undertake a work placement that will give you vital real-world experience of working within the law profession.
You will have the choice of taking this work placement at a local law firm (e.g. Irwin Mitchell), an in-house legal department of a large company, Citizen’s Advice or at a local authority.
These placements can lead to additional opportunities, with students having sealed coveted mini-pupillage positions in chambers to enhance their professional prospects.
