New performance room welcomes local colleges to see Esports in action

Young people from St Vincent’s College in Gosport visited the new Esports Performance Room at the University of Chichester recently. The visit offered students considering a career in Esports a chance to see the university’s state-of-the-art facilities in action. Esports is a fast-growing global industry which generated an estimated 1.96 billion dollars last year, offering career opportunities in gaming, team management, sports science and more.

The Performance Room, powered by SCAN UK, is used by students on the BA (Hons) Esports degree to develop their performance-based skills through teaching, in-house events and competitions. Esports students participate in regular competitions including the National Student Esports league.

The students from St Vincent’s College were welcomed to campus as part of an outreach visit, which offered a chance for sixth-form students to consider Esports as a potential future career. The bespoke College Outreach Programme, created by Esports lecturer Lee Cumbers, provides opportunities for collegiate and university students to compete, coordinate and participate in student-led Esports events.

Lee Cumbers, Lecturer in Esports and Esports Psychology at the University of Chichester, said: “The visit was a huge success thanks to our 3rd year Esports students, our staff and colleagues from St Vincent’s College. Looking forward to having them back in the future and to the upcoming visits from other local colleges!”

SCAN UK are pleased to support the new facilities and look forward to creating the final design of the room.
