Our People – Max Tyrie
I joined the university in 2017. I had been working in the film industry overseas for many, many years and decided to return to my native UK. I had always wanted to move into higher education (HE) and this provided me with the perfect opportunity.
What’s an average day at work like for you?
We usually start our session with “Dailies” which is a practice widely used in the film industry. We review all of the work from the week before, we critique as a group and give notes. I enjoy supporting the students as they create wonderful pieces of animation. We work hard to improve and refine the work to get it up to a professional standard.
What do you love most about working at the University of Chichester?
I like the small cohort numbers at Chichester. I like that I get to really know each student as an individual. I get to spend a lot of time with each student, which is essential for the type of work we do.
What is your greatest achievement in your job or research?
While working in the film industry I was lucky enough to win two British Academy Awards (BAFTAs), I’ve worked with so many talented people, many of whom were heroes to me growing up and inspired me to work in VFX. Since moving into HE my achievements lie in the success of my students as I watch them go on to work on films, TV shows and games.
